Can Salvation Be Lost: Scriptural Insights

Can Salvation Be Lost?

Salvation is the only way back to God. It is the only ticket to have access to God’s kingdom. It is your pass into God’s heritage. Many believe that once you are in the kingdom, that you can never be evicted once anymore. Does the scriptures agree with once saved, saved forever? For those who think Salvation cannot be Lost, let us look into the following scripture, unless you don’t believe the Bible or the Word of God is not in you.

The Word of God says in Hebrews 6:4-6, “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame”.

Let’s take it one after the other: here the Bible is talking about born again, Spirit filled, spiritual gift wielding believers who had known the truth of the gospel falling away back to the world where they have been saved from. It went further to say that it is impossible to win them back because they have already developed a reprobate mind. So it is clear that a believer can lose his salvation if he denies Christ by going back to his vomit.

Salvation is like a school, if you graduate, you will receive your certificate. But if not, you will not. If you fulfill all the requirement for graduation, you will graduate. If you did not, you will not graduate. If you engage in act of indiscipline and gross misconduct while you are enrolled in the school of salvation, you will be rusticated or dismissed from the institution (the kingdom of God), just like you would in a secular institution.

So what salvation is, is an  admission into the kingdom of God where you will be groomed to conform to the image of Jesus Christ. At the end of time your results will determine if you will graduate to the Kingdom of Heaven or not. Here you have the grace of God in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to purge your vessel of all filthiness and learn the ways of Christ. In the kingdom of God here on earth, a believer is turned into a Christian in order for him to be able to enter into the rest of God in the New Earth and the New Heaven.

Salvation admits you into God’s Kingdom and makes you a potential candidate of Heaven. whether you will enter or not all depends on what you did with the grace of God that was freely made available to you here on earth. And this admission (salvation) can be withdrawn at anytime of you abuse it.

Salvation only makes you a citizen of the kingdom of God here on earth and a potential citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. What you do with your salvation in the kingdom of God here on earth will determine is you will receive a permanent residence permit of Heaven or not.

If you work out your salvation with fear and trembling, and obey they Word of God; living a righteous life, you will definitely enter the rest of God in Heaven. But if not, the only vacancy will be Hell: a lake that burns with fire and brimstone forever.

Let us see what the Word of God says in 2 Peter 2:20-22, “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire”.

The Above Scripture is a consolidating what we have seen in the afore scriptures. When a dog goes back to his vomit is a proverb to represent those who have accepted Christ denying Christ again. And their portion is destruction as we can see from the above scriptures.

In Philippians 2:12 & 15-16 Apostle Paul was admonishing the Philippians Church to hold on to the Word of life till the coming of Christ so that his labour of leading them to Christ and nurturing them in the Faith will not be in vain. Verse 15 of that same chapter talks about being blameless and harmless sons of God without rebuke; which means that those who had received salvation from the law of sin and death can still lose it. It also tells us that once saved is not saved forever; but he that endures to the end, as Jesus said in Matthew 24:13, the same shall be saved.

This means that one can still lose his salvation except he abides in God’s love and the only way you can abide in God’s love is by allowing the Word of God to abide in you: by keeping the Commandments of Jesus Christ according to John 15:10.

Jesus Christ himself warned us about losing our salvation in Revelation 3:5: he said that it is only when believers overcome, that their names will not be blotted out of the book of Life, in other words, if a believer does not overcome till the end, his/her name will be blotted out of the book of Life.

Unbelievers and sinners do not need to have their names blotted out because their names were never written in the book of Life in the first place. It is only born again believers that had their names written in the book of Life the day they got born again, but this is not a permanent gesture as we can see from the above scripture. Your name earning a permanent place in the book of Life is dependent on your abiding in God’s Word and Love and allowing the same to abide in you till the end.

DO NOT ABUSE THE GRACE OF GOD.

In Hebrews 12:15-29, The Word of God shows us that a believer can fall from grace if he allows sin and unrighteousness to take root in him. It says, “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire“. So what it is saying is that the grace of God we have is ton to continue in sin, but to serve God acceptably in the fear of God and in all godliness.[ Romans 6:1-2 ]

You need to understand the meaning of God’s Grace, it is the power of salvation, it is the gift of God to sinners for a second chance and the gift of God to believers to excel, live a righteous life; growing in Faith from strength to strength and to endure till the end. Grace is not for you to be committing sexual Immorality/perversion and all sorts of iniquity in the church of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of our God. If that is your case, then repent now and be Converted while it is yet day.

Jesus was saying in Matthew 7:21-25, that not all who come into the kingdom of God here on earth will automatically qualify for Heaven. But those who used their privilege of salvation to do the will of God. He says that many will say to him in that day of judgement, “Lord, Lord,  we have prophesied and have cast out devils in your name; and have done many wonderful works in your name”. But then he will say to them, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity”.

From the above scriptures, it is evident that Jesus Christ was talking about believers who fell away or those who did not endure to the end. Unbelievers do not cast out devil’s in the name of Jesus; they do not work miracles in the name of Jesus neither do they prophesy in the name of Jesus. These, according to Hebrews 6: 4-6 are those who have tasted the power of God and the power of His Word but became friends with the lusts of this world and its pleasures of sin and ended up as reprobates.

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:

Let us consider this scripture, 2 Corinthians 5:17, it says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new“.

The question is, who is actually in Christ?

Does confessing Christ and and going back to your old man and living in the flesh make you one that is in Christ? The Bible says something in John 15: 9-10 about those who love Christ and in whom abide the love of Christ. This shows us an example of those who are in Christ. If you are in Christ, you must show forth the love of Christ by obeying His Commandments and bearing fruits (fruits of the Holy Spirit) worthy of your repentance.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:19, that the Lord knows them that are his. And, Let every one that call on the name of Christ depart from iniquity. In John 15:2-7, it says that every branch in Christ that does not bear fruit, he will  take away: and every branch that bears fruit, will enter his rest.

The Words of Jesus in Revelations 3:21-22, “To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches”.
