Words of Salvation, Deliverance and Revival
If all it takes to be saved is just Confessing Jesus as the Son of God and believing that God raised him from the dead, and then going back to our sinful nature, enjoying the pleasures of sin and living our lives according to the lusts and dictates of this world, then what it means is that everyone that ever confessed Jesus Christ as Lord will go to heaven.
But if this is true, then there is no need of working out our salvation with fear and trembling as the Word of God enjoined us, [Philippians 2:12]. There is no need for living a righteous and consecrated life without which no eyes shall see the LORD.
All we need then do is to confess Christ, believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead; and go on with our worldly life styles, wallowing in the lusts of the flesh, at the end, we will be saved and make Heaven, after all, we confessed Christ and believed that he is alive.
But this is not what the Bible says, in fact, Jesus refuted this claim when he said in Matthew 7: 21, that it is not everyone that calls him Lord, Lord that will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but those who do the will of his heavenly Father, in other words, only those who accept the Word of God and obey them till the end are the ones who will enter the kingdom of heaven.
Since Jesus is the Word of God personified, it then means that by confessing with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved according to Romans 10: 9. This scripture is true because our Lord Jesus expects anyone that confesses his name as Lord to remove his or her hands from sin and every worldliness/ungodliness.
This is why the Scripture says in 2 Timothy 2: 19, that everyone that calls on the name of Christ should depart from iniquity. Also in 1 John 3: 9, the Bible stated categorically that whosoever that is born of God does not commit sin, (does not continue in sin). In John 14:15, Jesus said that anyone that loves him should keep his commandment. The Bible also says in 1 John 3:24, that those who dwell in Christ Jesus are those who keep his commandment, and he dwells in them as well (to guide them into all truth in order to worship the Father in spirit and in truth).
These scriptures show that repentance and forsaking of sin and all ungodliness as well as obeying God’s Word and abiding in it till the end are all integral part of salvation which cannot be separated from the whole.
This is because you cannot call Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour, unless you believe that he is still alive and that he is the Son of God, and if you believe that he is alive, that means you also believed that God raised him from the dead. And if Jesus Christ is your Lord and Saviour, then you must obey his words and commandments and depart from your old sinful nature as you have been translated into his righteousness and holiness.
So you see when the Bible says that anyone that calls upon the name of the Lord shall be save, it is talking about those who call out of sincere and repentant heart, those who are broken in the spirit, those who have turned from their evil ways, [2 Chronicles 7:14]. The Bible is not talking about those who call on the name of the Lord in hypocrisy; not those who call Him on their lips but their hearts are far away from the LORD, [Matthew 15: 8; Isaiah 29:13]. This is why he said that he will spit out the lukewarm out of his mouth in Revelation 3: 15-16.
Do not be deceived, for God is not mocked, whatever you so, you shall reap at the end. If you so in the flesh you shall surely reap corruption whether you confessed Christ or not. [Galatians 6:7-8]
This is why Jesus himself said in Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The people Jesus was talking about here are not unbelievers, these are prophets, pastors, evangelists, believers who have confessed Jesus Christ as the Son of God and believed in their hearts that God raised him from the dead; and have tasted the power of the Holy Spirit, on that they could prophesy and cast out demons. But they abused the grace of God for the wages of covetousness and cares of this world.
Salvation is like a school, it is progressive; and you only receive your certificate when you have graduated and have met all the requirements for certification. Just like a school, that you gained admission (just like what you did when you confessed Jesus Christ as the Son of God and believed that God raised him from the dead) does not mean that you will automatically graduate and be certified. Just like some fail, some drop out of school, some are rusticated due to gross misconduct, it is also applicable to salvation.
Salvation is like a race, it is only those who fish well that are crowned. There is qualification trials for you to be admitted into the main competition, and during the main competition, candidates are still disqualified if they don’t abide by the rules of the competition. These are also applicable to salvation.
Salvation is like a journey, if you follow the right route, if you did not breakdown on the way, if you did not go back to your starting point, and if you take a detour to a wrong destination; you will get to your desired destination. Just like a lot of things can stop you from completing your journey and reaching your destination, somethings such as sin and disobedience to God’s Word can equally stop you from making heaven which is your final and desired destination as a believer.
So in order to be saved, you have to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that God raised him from the dead, and you have to Obey the words of Jesus Christ (his teachings, commandments and the Gospel) which is the Word of God till the end.
To be saved, you have to love God; and to love God is to obey His Word and commandments. Jesus said that anyone that loves him should keep his commandments.
By confessing Christ and believing that Jesus is the Son of God, you enroll into the school of salvation, which makes you a candidate of heaven. But whether you go to heaven or not depends on if you graduate or not from the school of salvation. And in the school of salvation, you have to accept and obey the Word of God till the end in order to graduate. The curriculum is learning the Word of God and practicing them throughout your stay on earth.
So by believing in Jesus Christ is the Son of God, you have the hope of heaven while those that believe not that Jesus is the Son of God are already condemned. This Hope of heaven is kept alive by abiding in the Word of God and allowing the Word of God to abide in you; which is the same as accepting the Word of God and keeping it till the end. That is being a hearer and doer of the Word of God till the end.
So with that said, I leave you with the following scriptures, because the scriptures cannot be broken.
Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
The above scripture is telling us about that we have to abide in the Will and the Word of God till the end to be saved.
Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
The above scriptures are talking about born again believer who went back to the world. It then shows us that once saved is not saved forever, a believer can stop believing. And someone that is confessed Christ can still go back to the world.
That is why Jesus said in Luke 9:62; And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
So if you confess Christ and later started sowing to the flesh, you shall surely reap corruption if you don’t repent on time.
Hebrews 3:12 & 14 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end.
The above scriptures show us again that a believer can still return to being an unbeliever; and that for you to make Heaven, you have to accept and obey the Word of God till the end.
1 John 3:2-10 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
From the above scriptures, you cannot be living in sin and say that you have hope of heaven because you confessed Christ and believed that God raised him from the dead. If you have hope of heaven, you have to purify yourself as Christ is pure.
This why the Word of God commanded us to be holy as our heavenly Father in
1 Peter 1:14-16; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Revelation 2:4-5 & 7 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Revelation 2:26 & 29 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The above scriptures are repeating over and over again to the Churches of believers, that the only way to enter God’s rest is if you accept and keep God’s Word till the end.
Revelation 3:1-3 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
This was Jesus admonishing the church in Sardis, that the works are not perfect before God and not their belief or Confessing of Christ; they pretend to be Christians in words, while they are not in deeds or works of Righteousness. They claim to be a living church while they are a dead church in the eyes of God. And Jesus was warning them about the pending damnation that awaits them if they do not repent. So you see, it is not “once saved, saved forever”.
Revelation 3:11 & 13 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The above scriptures show that your crown as a believer can be taken away from you if you do not hold unto the Word of God till the end. And holding on to the Word of God means to abide in the Word of God and allowing the Word of God to abide in you: meaning that you are not just a hearer of the Word of God only, but a doer of the Word of God as well, which you must hold on to till the end.
Revelation 21:7-8 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
